While walking along the beach at Pauanui on New Zealand's North Island we noticed several roped off areas. We were told this is where the New Zealand Dotterel (Red-breasted Plover) was nesting. We were quite surprised to actually see one because these beautiful little birds are endangered species and nearing extinction. This particular bird was not shy at all and I managed to get quite close to it.
