Each time I have wanted to photograph this sculpture the light has either been poor or the sun has been in the wrong position. I eventually discovered exactly when the sun would shine on it and returned to the quayside to photograph it. I think it looks impressive with the white bridge in the background and the vivid blue sky.
The River God is a male figure sculpture with a torso and head only - Andre Wallace 1996. The bronze figure sits on top of a steel column apparently blowing at the Siren holding a staff and chain. The work is set on a roundabout at the centre of East Quayside. This, and other pieces on the Quayside, were funded by the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation as part of the Quayside regeneration.
