While walking along the beach at Pauanui on New Zealand's North Island we noticed several roped off areas. We were told this is where the New Zealand Dotterel (Red-breasted Plover) was nesting. We were quite surprised to actually see one because these beautiful little birds are endangered species and nearing extinction. I managed to follow one for a while as it ran along the pebble beach and managed to photograph it on a slight rise on the beach with the ocean behind.
