Horseshoe Bend is located about 4 miles southwest of Page, Arizona.
It's about a 1 mile hike through the desert from US route 89. The Horseshoe Bend can be viewed from the steep cliff above the 1,000 foot drop to the Colorado river.
We first visited Horseshoe Bend in 2005 but I struggled to get the whole bend in with the camera I had then. We were in the area again in 2014 and by then I had a wide angle lens. Even though it is still not easy to get the whole bend & river in the shot. I was about to leave disappointed yet again. But as we were walking away I saw a young man laid in the edge of the rock with his little camera held high in the air. So I decided to try the same! I laid down with my wife holding onto the belt on my shorts (what good that would do I don't know!), I set the camera to 10mm, pre focused, held it high in the air and took several shots. I managed to get a shot, be it slightly wonky, but straightened in Photoshop.
